About us
We build family, pursue Jesus and love community.
We are a non-denominational Christian community who want to live generous, supernatural lives, loving people and keeping Jesus central to all we do.

Our Story
Birthed from the joining of two churches, The Rock church has a heart for people all over the city to encounter the King, find their purpose, and live out their God given destiny.
A non-denominational Christian church who want to live generous, supernatural lives loving people and keeping Jesus central to all we do. It is through moments of deep worship and biblical inspired revelation our hope is that people might find their full potential connected in authentic community and relationship with the Jesus.
Led by Mark Nyman and his wife Monique since 2011 after being a part of the Eldership team at Glenridge Church, The Rock has been shaped into what you see her as today; a community of people passionate about Jesus, pursuing the Holy Spirit and championing freedom and identity as Sons and Daughters of God.
This looks like many things; but in short comes down to living a life being ‘Set free to love’; love people, love God, love the church. As a community we know that we carry the kingdom culture of Heaven, and that our purpose is to carry that culture into the city of Durban, and the nations of the earth as we partner in Faith with God and His destiny for us as a church.
Leadership
The Rock Church, led by Mark and Monique Nyman as lead Elders, is led by a team of Elders and Deacons. We see in the book of Acts chapter 6, as the early church grew, the Apostles chose deacons to help with the administration of community life in a very diverse and rapidly growing community.
In the church today, we believe Deacons are key men and women who assist in the serving and loving of Gods people. The qualification for this office is the same as that of an Elder, except an elder must be able to teach (1 Timothy 3).
So, we see these men and women, full of wisdom and the Spirit, as a vital part of the loving leadership team of a local church.
Life Groups
We believe life change happens in the context of relationships – that you grow in circles not in rows. Life Groups have one simple purpose: to bring people together. God created us to live in community with others, and it is only then that we can experience the full life He intends for us.
We believe every person is created with God-given potential to make a difference in the world. Life Groups are a place you can grow with others to become more like Jesus and reach the potential God has put inside you.
Our Life Group model is based on the model set by the early church. When you read the book of Acts you can read about how small group meetings held in homes helped lay a foundation of growth in the early church in Jerusalem.

Life flows in seasons, being discipled means being surrounded by people of similar stage or age or people who have been where you are. At The Rock our hope is for every person to be connected in meaningful community through a Life Group. To visit a Life Group near you, please connect with us by emailing office@therock.org.za

What we believe
ONE GOD in three persons: the Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit.
THE BIBLE as the inspired word of God.
JESUS CHRIST, fully God and fully man, was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary and is the Savior of humanity.
SALVATION of sinners by grace through repentance and faith in Jesus. Through Jesus we have freedom, identity and purpose.
SONSHIP. From the moment we are saved, we become sons and daughters of The King of kings.
HOLY SPIRIT, who indwells all believers, encouraging, empowering and teaching them and enabling them to produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit and to operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
THE CHURCH, universal and local.
WATER BAPTISM by immersion as a confession by the believer in the death and resurrection of Jesus.
BREAKING OF BREAD commonly called communion where bread and grape juice are the symbols of celebration and remembering Jesus’ sacrifice.
ETERNAL LIFE for the believer.

Giving
Giving is a central theme in the Bible. Jesus talked more about this subject than Heaven, Hell, or prayer. We love to give of our time and our money at The Rock and can give in one of two ways.
Our tithe, or first fruits of our income, is what we give back to God. We read about the principle of tithing throughout the bible.
